There are plenty of opportunities for all of us to enjoy the outdoors in Norway. Forests, mountains, lakes and rivers and a varied coastline offer a wide range of opportunities for outdoor activities, and the general right of public access means that large areas of Norwegian nature are open to everyone.
The Directorate is responsible for making sure that the right of public access is respected in practice, and for encouraging people to discover and enjoy the outdoors. Green spaces in and near urban areas are particularly important because they can be used regularly even by people with busy everyday lives.
Outdoor recreation is one of the Directorate’s areas of responsiblity. Welcome to the Norwegian countryside!
